South Front of House & Parterre

Waddesdon Manor was built at the end of the 19th century (1874-89) by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to display his vast collection of art treasures and to entertain his guests.

It was built in the style of a French château of the 16th century and houses one of the finest collections of French 18th century decorative arts in the world. Its French furniture, Savonnerie carpets and Sèvres porcelain rank in importance with the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and the Royal and Wallace Collection in London. There is also a fine collection of important portraits by Gainsborough and Reynolds, and works by Dutch and Flemish masters of the 17th century.

The Aviary

The garden is renowned for its colourful Parterre, specimen trees, shady walks and views, fountains and statuary. At its heart is the Aviary, stocked with exotic birds and known for breeding endangered species

The Rothschild name is also synonymous with wine and the Waddesdon Wine Cellars have been created to house a private wine collection.

Grey Drawing Room

Top quality food and wines are served throughout the day in two restaurants, and the shops offer a superb range of gifts, toys, food and wine.

Conveniently situated close to London, Oxford and Milton Keynes, Waddesdon offers a memorable day out for all the family.
