A
Fascinating Museum

The Old Gaol is the landmark building in
the historic market town of Buckingham. Restored extensively in recent years, it now contains a fascinating museum
reflecting its history and that of the surrounding area. Contained in twelve former prison cells, exhibits include
Buckinghamshire’s military history and local author Flora Thompson (“Lark Rise to Candleford”). Now glazed over, the
prisoners’ Exercise Yard forms an iconic space for occasional exhibitions and is a unique hire facility for meetings and
parties etc. There is also a shop selling souvenirs and mementos, and a second-hand book shop.
The Old Gaol also houses Buckingham’s Visitor Information Centre, which can provide information
about local attractions and facilities, and those available further afield. Coach and accommodation bookings can also be
made; tickets for local events and locally-sourced gifts are also available |
